In the years following the Civil War, the Wild West offered hope to a recovering nation. The Comstock Lode promised much-needed wealth to help fund the reconstruction of the Union , but a railroad was needed to carry passengers and freight from remote silver mines to the boomtowns that sprang up around them. The Virginia & Truckee Railroad Company answered the call with trains like our Silverado.
